The Cubs reportedly closed a deal with one of their arbitration-eligible players on Thursday, agreeing with infielder Jeff Baker on a one-year, $1.175 million contract.
FoxSports.com cited a source in reporting the agreement Thursday afternoon, about 10 hours before the deadline for teams to tender contracts to unsigned players under their control. The club has neither confirmed nor commented on the report.
Baker, 29, earned $975,000 last season in his first year of arbitration eligibility.
He earned a slight raise after playing in 79 games for the Cubs and batting .272 with a .326 on-base percentage, and hitting .350 against left-handed pitchers. Baker played third base, second base, first base and right field during the year.
