Ben Sheets will audition for teams later this month, including the Cubs.

According to a report in the Chicago Tribune, Cubs general manager Jim Hendry spoke to Sheets' agent at the Winter Meetings about the right-hander's availability. Sheets reportedly has been asking for a two-year deal, averaging $10 million to $12 million per year. The Cubs are believed to be willing to offer an deal loaded with incentives.

Sheets, 31, missed the 2009 season following elbow surgery. In eight seasons with Milwaukee, he compiled an 86-83 record.

The Cubs will not have Ted Lilly for the first month of the season as he continues to recover from arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder. They do head into Spring Training with Carlos Zambrano, Ryan Dempster and Randy Wells set for the rotation plus several candidates for the fifth spot, including Carlos Silva, Jeff Samardzija, Tom Gorzelanny, and Sean Marshall.
