The Chicago Cubs will host the sixth annual Race to Wrigley 5K Run Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Wrigley Field. Registration is now open.
The Race to Wrigley begins at 8 a.m. at the corner of Clark and Addison streets. The course route takes runners of all ages through the Lakeview neighborhood before returning to the Friendly Confines, running inside the Wrigley Field concourse and finishing under the famed Wrigley Field Marquee at Clark and Addison.
Race to Wrigley proceeds benefit Chicago Cubs Charities. Chicago Cubs Charities supports community groups, programs and organizations throughout the Chicago area that benefit those in need. This year, Chicago Cubs Charities will again donate all personal fundraising proceeds to Children's Memorial Hospital. The top fundraiser will receive four tickets to a Cubs game and be recognized in an on-field pre-game ceremony. The second, third and fourth place fundraisers will receive an autographed official Cubs jersey. Anyone who raises more than $1,000 will earn two free Cubs tickets from a select group of games.
"The annual Race to Wrigley has become one of the most popular races in Chicago and is a great way to start the running season and contribute to our community," said Mike Lufrano, Cubs executive vice president of community affairs. "In its first five years, Race to Wrigley raised more than $510,000 for charity."
Participants may register at www.cubs.com/race. Pre-registration costs for the race are $37 for a chip-timed run or $32 for a fun run. The chip-timed run begins at 8 a.m. Once all of the chip-timed runners have gone through the start corral, the fun run participants will be moved to the starting line to start at approximately 8:10 a.m.
Runners can pick up their packets at AthletiCo's Bucktown location (1644 N. Milwaukee Ave.) April 2 from 12-6 p.m. or April 6 from 12-8 p.m.; AthletiCo's Lincoln Park/Lakeview location (1323 W. Diversey Parkway) April 9 from 12-6 p.m. or April 13 from 12-8 p.m.; or at Wrigley Field on the morning of the race.
There will be a limited amount of free parking on the day of the event in the Cubs Green Lot on Grace Street at Clifton Avenue.
